What Others are Saying about IZE
For more than 40 years, IZE has introduced students, educators, and adventurers to the wonders of Belize. Here’s what our guests have to say:
It was fantastic!
One of our students had a birthday while we were at Blue Creek, and the cooks spent all day making a really delicious pineapple upside down cake to surprise her. It was fantastic. They really went above and beyond expectations. The guides that we encountered at Blue Creek were amazing. I thought that some of our most adventurous activities of the trip happened during our stay at Blue Creek, and because of that having guides that looked after our safety was so important. Francisco and Vince were heroes of the cave swim, and Isidoro and Silvano were experts at providing historical, cultural, and ecological lessons. William came by one night to tell Mayan ghost stories, which was one of the highlights of my time at Blue Creek. – Emily Arsenault, Lab Instructor ~ Colby College
I had the most unbelievable time thank to IZE!
I have never experienced such friendly and helpful people. This was my first time ever leaving the country and I was really nervous about being in the middle of the rainforest but every guide that I encountered was so knowledgeable and helped me to overcome my fears! -Samantha Mussorfiti ~ Student
It would not be travel to Belize without your assistance, your staff and facilities.
“I have been visiting Belize through IZE for over 20 years, both as a student and faculty member. It is my hope to continue our relationship for many more years to come. I would again like to thank Richard at South Water Caye, Ignacio and Florencio at Blue Creek, and last Jon Volpe in the US office. They all went above and beyond to make our trip amazing.” – Professor Chris Petrie Brevard Community College
I definitely felt a part of the family there.
“Oh my gosh!!! The food was amazing!!! I wish I could have taken one of the kitchen ladies home with me. I ate like 4 plates at every meal, I love Marie Sharps hot sauce!! The staff was so friendly! They answered any questions we had about he island, fish or anything. They were knowledgable in marine biology and identifying organisms. I definitely felt a part of the family there. - Linnea Davis, Student Old Dominion
All of the staff on South Water Caye are great
” The food is awesome! The ladies in the kitchen do a wonderful job. My group consumed a good bit of food, I believe, and I was impressed that they made sure all of my students got enough to eat. This was such an improvement over previous trips, I’d say. All of the staff on South Water Caye are great. My students really appreciate the chance to talk with and learn from the various folks. I was impressed with the guides always went in the water with us not only to help corral the students, but also to protect the coral as best as possible. That communicates a great deal!” - Dr. Eric Wetzel Wabash College
I have decided to bring a class back to IZE every other February!
“We snorkeled everyday and were taken to a new reef each time. The snorkeling was excellent. The food was excellent and there was always plenty to eat. The staff was always friendly and hospitable. It was a wonderful experience. My students worked hard and played hard.” – Craig Tepper Cornell College
I wouldn’t change anything!
My experience with IZE was amazing! I enjoyed every minute of my time in both Blue Creek and on South Water Caye. The staff was very helpful and made me feel welcome.” -Natalie Gregory SUNY Cortland
Kudos to IZE!
“We are back home….reluctantly!! I cannot say enough in praise for the staff at South Water! We were treated so well and had such a wonderful time that it makes us sad we waited so long to ‘rediscover’ IZE. We found just enough change to accomodate our ‘aging bodies,’ but not enought to spoil the feeling of adventure!
I can only say we will not let twelve years go by until the next visit! We are trying to decide when to go back and if we stay for one month…or longer! Kudos to IZE for a job well done!!”
It’s a paradise!
“Our university study-abroad students and faculty stay at IZE South Water Caye each summer for a month during coral-reef courses. IZE has the facilities, location, and people to make each stay wonderful. There are comfortable facilities for sleeping and dining, a large classroom and comfortable setting for our meetings, recreational space, and well-maintained boats and diving equipment for field work.
South Water Caye is located on the barrier reef, so students can snorkel over coral reefs right from the beach. Numerous spectacular diving sites are within a mile of the island. It’s a paradise.
But it is the people at IZE who keep us coming back. Many places offer bargain prices, good facilities, and comfortable rooms for field classes, but IZE has more. IZE has the people for success. IZE employees are willing to interact with students and faculty, happy to help when needed, but anxious to let each group explore at their own pace.
Most of all, we feel welcome at IZE. It’s a place where we can work hard, play hard, and feel at home. The people of IZE are friends with whom we do business, not business people who want to be friends.”

Don’t change a thing!
“I would go back to South Water Caye in a second. Don’t change a thing.”
Blue Creek was fantastic!
“Phenominal trip! Our experience was the BEST! Plus, our experience at Blue Creek with the local Mayan population was fantastic. We especially were thrilled to be invited to the church service.”
A trip of a lifetime!
“The students had a great time. The cultural diversity, tropical forest, coral reefs were so far outside their experience in Montana, they are all calling it ‘a trip of a lifetime’. We will be back!”
The idyllic postcards don’t do it justice!
“I thought those idyllic picture postcards you see everywhere couldn’t do you place on South Water caye justice.
Not only was the setting glorious, the accomodations charming and comfortable, the snorkeling dazzeling and the food good, but the people were interesting and nice, staff and guests alike. It was just the vacation I needed.”
We were well taken care of!
“My husband and I took our two small children (4 and 6) and my 17 year old son, and we all loved the island. The staff were all terrific. We hated to leave our new friends.
My oldest son was able to work with the researchers there from Cornell University to complete a marine research project during our stay that gave him needed credit toward his science requirements for school. It gave him a perspective on the field he could never gotten from a textbook or lecture. He was a different young man when we brought him home.
The family style meals were delicious and fresh. I particularly enjoyed not only not having to cook, but not even having to decide what to eat after initial questions about what we liked/disliked.
It was peaceful and restful. We spent many hours just swinging in the hammocks. The diving and snorkeling were lovely. We were very well taken care of throughout our trip. When we were talking with the children about a vacation this year, my now 7 year old wanted only to return to South Water Caye.”
